We don’t just hold a puppy party – nowadays we have Scallywags. We found there is too much to do to fit it all into just one evening so we run the course over four weeks. Our team of dedicated nurses support new puppy owners through the first few tricky months but we believe it is really important to socialise young dogs.
Scallywags classes are enjoyable and interesting for both the client and the puppy. There is often a very mixed bag of breeds and lots of children come along with their parents and seem to become really enthused about training.
After completing a Scallywags course at the surgery, we encourage clients to go on and do more advanced training with Jeanette McClure, our behaviourist. Jeannette is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, and uses only kind, reward-based methods of training (treats and games). Jeannette’s Polite Paws courses are designed for pet dog owners who would like to teach their dog/puppy to respond to basic cues such as walk nicely on a lead, sit and down, wait and stay, come to you when called and leave.
